Funding refusal for brewing museum is 'just a setback'

COUNCIL chiefs are hoping to launch a partnership with the private sector after their bid to secure lottery funding to create the National Museum of Brewing in Burton was rejected.

While East Staffordshire Borough Council has described failing to secure a grant as 'disappointing, officials say feedback from the National Lottery Heritage Fund (NLHF) was ‘highly positive’

THE NLHF's Board of Trustees recognised the significance of the wider regeneration scheme and the potential of the project to preserve Burton’s brewing heritage for future generations.

They commended the ambition of the proposal and its alignment with the town’s masterplan.

The decision not to allocate funding was based on concerns around financial risk, including cost escalation and a need for partnership funding.

The NLHF has now urged the council to address these points and reapply.
