HOCKEY: Burton men's firsts were beaten 4-1 at Oulton.

Both sides went into the match without a point but Burton couldn't get off the mark to provide a much-needed springboard.

Burton started the game slower than the opposition who took advantage. The first goal came from a short corner after an individual mistake. The second goal came from another individual error, which led to a short corner, which was converted.

The third goal was from a shot at keeper Toby Laughlin, who deflected it directly into a covering defender who kicked the ball into the goal.

Oulton then scored a fourth goal following another breakaway.

Burton kept their heads and continued to improve throughout the remaining half. The ever-present Mark Northcott managed to get a goal back.

Burton played better hockey in the second half. They had more possession and the opposition tired, but the Oulton keeper was in inspired form and they couldn't make headway.
