I have kept rabbits for 38 years and currently care for four. I am very anxious about a new rabbit haemorrhagic virus strain that is killing many vaccinated rabbits. I wonder if you could warn rabbit owners?
There is a new vaccine but there have been supply issues, including at my vet practice. Many thanks for flagging this very important problem.
Rabbit haemorrhagic disease (RHDV) is highly contagious and often fatal. There are frequently few signs if any, with many rabbits simply found dead. There are two strains of the virus - RHDV1 and RHDV2 - with strain 2, originally isolated in 2013, being most prevalent in the UK.
