STRAIGHT TALK

- SUSAN LEE Columnist

Women just want what they're owed

A FEW months ago I had to undergo a financial overhaul.

This was particularly unpleasant because I only got a CSE in maths and numbers frighten me. Insurance, tax, pensions, ISAs - you may as well try to teach me ancient Greek than get me to understand any of that.

However, circumstances had changed and it was time to face facts and figures and take some professional advice.

Which is why I found myself in the office of a financial adviser being asked questions about my retirement.

Now, I'm no spring chicken (see photo above) but neither am I old enough to be staring down the barrel of a bus pass. Daytime classes in crochet are still some way off for me. Dismayed, I looked at this sharp-suited, yet-to-turn 40 chap with a MacBook and an air of numerical confidence, and wondered whether I appeared to him as a retiree-inwaiting.
