WEPL Opening pair put on 170 as Bedminster ease to victory over Bath

LOUCESTERSHIRE’S Joe Phillips finished unbeaten on 98 as Bedminster inflicted a first defeat of the summer on Bath to move up to joint second with their rivals in Premier One of the West of England Premier League.
The visitors battled their way to 198-9 after losing the toss, with opener Brad Porteus top-scoring on 44 before falling victim to Joe Millard, who went on to finish with 4-47 from 10 overs, while there was a return of 3-33 from eight for Tayyab Nasir.
Bath needed early wickets if they were to put any pressure on Bedminster, but an opening stand of 170 all but settled the outcome.
Ollie Meadows fell for a patient 64 but Phillips kept going, with his 16th four securing the points as he finished just two short of a well-deserved century.
Bridgwater took advantage of Bath's slip to go seven points clear at the top courtesy of a nine-wicket triumph away to Bristol.
