IF you're thinking the last few days of the school holidays are a good time for a mini-break and you're a fan of racing, you might be right, but one race this weekend should not be ignored.

Publish can make headlines in Sandown's Solario Stakes

We had, of course, a feast at York last week when all 28 races across its four days boasted minimum prize-money of £100,000, there were Group 1s on each afternoon and Saturday was capped with the historic Ebor, the richest flat handicap in Britain and perhaps the most prestigious.

It's probably unfair to say we're facing a famine tomorrow, when the Solario Stakes (3.35) is the highlight of ITV's coverage.

A Group 3 event, the Sandown heat - broadcast alongside an ‘okay’ undercard and merely decent action from Beverley and Chester - is actually a pretty useful event run over seven furlongs for two-year-olds because of its place in the calendar. It comes early enough for connections to dream about bigger end-of-season targets or revise plans should their hopes fail to shine.
