FARMERS who blocked Whitehall in protest against changes to inheritance tax “didn’t look very poor” in their “sparkling new expensive tractors”, Parliament has been told.

Protest farmers 'didn't look poor on tractors'

Labour peer Lord Foulkes of Cumnock hit back at Conservative criticism of the policy, accusing the Tories of wanting to “make the rich even richer”.

His comments came after the Government announced in the October Budget that it will start imposing inheritance tax of 20% on farms worth more than £1 million.

The measure sparked outrage in the industry and tractor protests in Westminster, with a heated dispute over how many farms would be affected.
