New heights Organisers expecting bigger crowds for this year's fiesta

BRISTOL International Balloon Fiesta could be on track for its best attendance in a decade as it returns to Ashton Court today.

Though the free event does not require tickets, visitors who chose to drive to the site do have to book parking in advance, which can be an indicator of attendees - and the Saturday slots have completely sold out.

According to organisers, it is the first time since 2015 that parking has been filled. If they fill more than one day it will be a first, although many people choose to walk, bus, taxi or cycle to the site.

Ben Hardy, the event's executive director, told the Post he is hopeful all six mass ascents could go ahead, as the weather is looking promising. However, he spoke of “exciting” additions for 2025 to make it about more than just the spectacle of a field full of balloons lifting off at once.
