Jets fettered Emissions nosedive as Greens reduce flights overseas

EMISSIONS from staff and councillors at Bristol City Council flying abroad were slashed by two thirds in the first year since the Greens took power. Carbon dioxide emissions, which are causing climate change, from international travel dropped from 42 tonnes to 13.3 tonnes.

While former Labour mayor Marvin Rees flew to Vancouver, Kigali and Sharm El-Sheikh, to "put Bristol on the world stage", the Greens have taken a different approach.

Earlier this year, Councillor Heather Mack, deputy leader of the council, took the train all the way to Lithuania - around 1,200 miles.

Between April last year and March this year, emissions from international travel were 13.3 tonnes, with 1.6 tonnes for councillors and the rest from council staff. In the previous year, emissions were 42 tonnes, with 16 for the mayor and councillors and the rest from staff.
