Jam warning as Christmas getaway traffic is predicted to peak today

THE M4/M5 interchange near Bristol has been identified as a traffic jam hotspot as festive traffic is expected to peak today.

The AA predicts about 24.4 million cars will take to the UK's roads marking the busiest Christmas getaway on record.

Survey data suggests nearly two-thirds of drivers will embark on journeys of up to 50 miles with visiting family and friends cited as the main reason for travel.

The motoring association warned the interchange near Bristol will likely face congestion alongside retail hotspots and other major motorway junctions notably the M25 near Heathrow.
