HELLO! This column is coming to you live and direct from the BT Naughty Step, which has been seasonally decorated with Christmas fairy lights rather fetchingly wound around barbed wire.

(No, no, I don't deserve any credit or royalties for the idea. Barbed wire fairy lights might well be a profitable commercial prospect, and you're welcome to go into business with it. I can see it going down well in some quarters. Like for instance with people who live in rough areas but who nonetheless want to give their homes some festive adornment. It would also look great at this time of year twinkling in different colours along the tops of the walls of Horfield Prison. It would cheer up the inmates and the neighbours alike.)
