B&D Ninth-wicket pair star in Downend 2nds' win

HENRY Cheal and captain Joe Tolman shared an unbroken stand of 80 as Downend 2nds recovered in style to claim a two-wicket home win over Claverham to remain third in the Senior Division of the Martin Berrill Sports Bristol & District League.
The visitors appeared to be holding all the aces after reducing Downend to 87-8 in their chase towards a target of 164.
But Cheal went on to finish on 75 from 90 balls (five fours five sixes) and Tolman, at number 10, put together a crucial 26 to deny Callum Watts (4-43) and Adam Hadfield (2-17, both from nine overs) to secure win number three of the summer for the historic Bristol club.
Leaders Bath 2nds marched on with an 118-run victory away to lowly Hanham, while second-placed Cleeve saw off bottom side Stapleton by eight wickets.
Captain Cameron Perry produced one of the spells of the season so far to bag 5-24 from only 5.5 as Hambrook secured their first win of the campaign in Division One, trumping Whitchurch by 96 runs.
