Residents have mixed views on future arrival of Lidl store

A NEW Lidl being planned for Brentwood has caused some major controversy among residents of the town.
The supermarket chain has plans to open in Wates Way - a former light industrial site off Ongar Road - since winning planning permission in February 2023 at appeal.
But after Lidl’s fight for permission, the construction of the new supermarket has yet to begin.
Brentwood Borough Council has said it received notification from Lidl that building work will start before the end of 2025.
Lidl won planning permission to build a supermarket on appeal after the council rejected its initial plan on the grounds that it would have an “unacceptable” impact on traffic.
Brentwood Borough Council was even ordered to pay costs after the German budget supermarket chain successfully appealed and won permission to develop the site off Ongar Road into a food store and 46 residential flats.
