Police investigating allegation of racist abuse at football match

POLICE officers are investigating an allegation of racist abuse after a football match involving two Essex non-league teams.
It follows an incident at the playoff final fixture between Billericay Town and Brentwood Town at New Lodge on Monday, May 4.
Brentwood Town said their first-team coach, Alex Akrofi, was subjected to abuse during the final.
They said the incident occurred towards the end of extra-time, where a spectator positioned directly behind the dugouts “directed unacceptable and offensive language”.
Billericay Town said a spectator was identified and removed from the stadium. It was then referred to the police for further investigation.
Essex Police want anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information or footage to contact them. They should quote incident 42/69548/26.
