Steve Borthwick has ripped up his team for Saturday’s Six Nations clash with Italy after admitting England’s performances against Scotland and Ireland fell below the required standard.

Reacting to the 42-21 rout at home by Andy Farrell’s men in round three, Borthwick has made nine changes in personnel and three positional switches for the visit to Rome.
