A HISTORIC Birmingham library that “will never reopen” in its original form remains frozen in time three years after closing.

Historic library frozen in time three years after closing

Spring Hill Library remains untouched since closing

Ladywood’s Spring Hill Library closed ‘temporarily’ in December 2022 due to a heating problem caused by its ageing pipework.

But the Grade II-listed Victorian building, next door to Tesco Superstore on Spring Hill, never reopened.

Newly-released images from campaign group Birmingham Loves Libraries show the interior has been perfectly preserved “like a time capsule” Books still line the shelves and posters remain on noticeboards.

There had been hope the red brick building would reopen as a library, despite Birmingham City Council’s financial troubles, but that optimism was dashed by the authority earlier this year.
