Westwood preaching evolution rather than revolution

IT has been a whirlwind few months for Ian Westwood at Warwickshire.

Having been on the coaching staff following 17 years as a player, during which time he captained the Bears, opened the batting and plundered more than 8,000 runs, he has now risen to the role of first-team coach at Edgbaston.

Following on from the club's high performance review, and the departure of Mark Robinson, Westwood was promoted upon his return from coaching overseas, having spent five weeks in Dubai with Sharjah Warriors in the ILT20 as batting coach.

Brummie Westwood, who once counted the likes of Chris Woakes, Olly Hannon-Dalby and Sam Hain as his team-mates, has now been tasked with guiding the new-look Bears to improvement on the pitch, as the new season commences at Edgbaston today with the visit of newly-promoted Sussex.
