FORMER VILLA GOALIE STARTED SECOND CAREER AS DRIVING INSTRUCTOR

- NICK HORNER

Tributes to life marked by saves and passes

TRIBUTES have been paid to a former Aston Villa footballer turned driving instructor who became as well-known for his ‘passes’ as his saves.

Goalkeeper Jake Findlay played for Villa and Luton Town during his 12-year playing career, and was at Coventry when the Sky Blues won the FA Cup in 1987.

But he was perhaps as much known for teaching youngsters to drive through his ‘Jake Findlay School of Motoring’ in Streetly as for his keeping prowess.

Jake's car was a familiar sight around Sutton Coldfield and north Birmingham.

Villa and Luton both issued tributes to the 70-year-old, who lived in Sutton and died on Saturday, May 3.

In a statement, Villa said: "Aston Villa is deeply saddened to hear of the passing of former player Jake Findlay, who has died at the age of 70.

"The thoughts of everyone at the club are with Jake's family and friends at this difficult time.
