Tribute to veteran, 83, after bookies collapse

EMOTIONAL tributes have been paid to a popular army veteran who collapsed in Ladbrokes.

Tom Lewis “enjoyed a bet on the horses” and was in the Willenhall bookmakers when he suffered a heart attack.

Police officers desperately tried to save the 83-year-old after racing to the shop shortly after 11am on Wednesday, August 13.

Sergeant Paul Smith and PC Matt Smith took turns performing CPR until paramedics arrived at the scene and took Mr Lewis to Wolverhampton's New Cross Hospital.

Their efforts gave Mr Lewis' family time to see him before he died at around 7.30pm.
