DANIEL, 16, WAS 'WARM PRESENCE AND POSITIVE SPIRIT' WHO WILL BE 'SORELY MISSED'

- BEN PERRIN News Reporter

A SCHOOLBOY who died in a lake at one of Birmingham's most popular parks was last night named as "deeply-loved" Daniel Drewitt.

The 16-year-old went missing in Powell's Pool in Sutton Park, Sutton Coldfield, just after 6pm on Thursday.

His body was recovered four hours later, after extensive search and rescue efforts.

His death is not being treated as suspicious and police are liaising with the coroner.

His family were yesterday being supported by West Midlands Police officers.

Daniel attended Colmers School & Sixth Form College in Rednal, where staff paid tribute to the "talented sportsman".

A statement read: “We are all deeply shocked and saddened by the loss of Daniel Drewitt, a Year 11 student at Colmers School.

“Daniel was a young man who brought light and character to our entire school community; he was confident, full of life, a talented sportsman, and so deeply loved by staff and fellow pupils alike. His warm presence and positive spirit will be sorely missed.
