Poor public transport hits night economy warns report

WEST Midlands transport bosses are exploring ways to make evening travel "easier and safer" in a bid to boost the region's nighttime economy.

West Midlands Combined Authority bosses will use the report to help them make travelling at night easier and safer

A new report by an Aston University researcher concluded that a lack of appropriate public transport was one of the key factors impacting businesses, their staff and customers.

'Visitor Economy - Public Transport Use Across the West Midlands’ Evening Economy' focused on travelling to and from bars and restaurants and events such as concerts and theatre shows, and examined not just the ticket holders but also those who work at the venues.

A key finding was that 40% of audiences used public transport to travel to events but only 18% used it to return home due to poor late-night services.
