STORY TAKES DEEP DIVE INTO MAKING OF ICONIC MOVIE

- STEVE WOLLASTON

PLAY HAS PLENTY OF BITE

JAWS is a film that needs no introduction to anyone, a behemoth of a movie that set Steven Spielberg on the path to being one of the world's greatest film-makers.

The story behind the film, is a fascinating narrative, largely down to the fact that 'Bruce' the animatronic shark created for the movie never worked.

The film was meant to have a lot more of the shark in it, but a combination of the water being too salty and complicated hydraulics meant it spent more time out of the sea than in it.

In fact, it prompted Spielberg to focus on the unseen, brought to life by that iconic two-note masterpiece from composer John Williams.

It also weighed heavily on the brilliant trio of Robert Shaw, Richard Dreyfuss, and Roy Scheider - out at sea, hunting the shark.

That's where this play focuses its energy, on telling the story of three men stranded on a boat, waiting hours, day in and day out, for the shark to be fixed.
