Owner's heartbreak after award-winning restaurant 'violated'

OWNERS of an Italian canalside spot in Birmingham have told their grief after their restaurant was broken into and their equipment destroyed.

Bosses at Ciaro, in Gas Street, say that they felt 'violated' when they realised the window of their independent restaurant had been smashed with 'shattered glass everywhere'.

Co-owner Alex Ionescu celebrated good news earlier this week when Ciaro was named Restaurant of the Year at the Birmingham Awards.

Now she’s calling on the community for help turning their smashed window into an art piece.

Alex said: “At around 2:30 our alarm system went off, they called us and said there was a break-in.

“We have smoke alarm system so as soon as the window broke they only had a couple of minutes to get in before it filled with smoke.
