A BRAVE Birmingham mum set up a community centre after her son was robbed at knifepoint in a bid to show his attackers they would not be silenced.

Laura Mace's teenage boy was on his way home from school in Birmingham when he was jumped and robbed by balaclava-clad attackers.

In response, she founded a community centre in Birmingham to help those whose lives had been devastated by violence.

Now, Laura has been shortlisted for the 'Outstanding Citizen Award' by the West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC).

Discovering the lack of support available for young victims and their families, she founded The Alive Wellness CIC Centre as a community hub.
