WOMAN IN HOTEL FOR 7 MONTHS

- STEPHANIE BALLOO News Reporter

‘I’m still not allowed back home after sewer find’

The sinkhole that led to the discovery of the deteriorating property

A BIRMINGHAM City Council tenant has been left living in a Travelodge hotel for almost seven months after a sewer was unearthed in her bedroom.

The 28-year-old woman, who is a carer for her schoolboy brother, was sleeping beside the live manhole and suffering from a rat infestation for six years at her Kingstanding property.

The flat was deemed ‘unsafe’, with the siblings ‘decanted’ out into temporary housing. Now, several months later, they say they are still unable to move back to the flat.

Ever since, she’s been having to fork out £1,200 a month for the hotel rent and her flat. She’s been advised to move back in and bid for another property, however in the midst of the housing crisis, this “feels unrealistic,” she said.
