Green belt proposal is 'an attack on the town'

PLANS to build thousands of homes on more of Sutton Coldfield’s green belt have been labelled an “attack on the town”.

Birmingham City Council is consulting on documents detailing areas across the city which could be developed up to 2044.

Some 15 green belt sites in Sutton, including parts of country parks and golf courses and land on the edge of the town proposed for thousands of homes, have been put forward.

A green belt assessment, carried out by Arup states a number of the sites are either potential ‘grey belt’ - land within the green belt which had been previously developed - or land which, while in the green belt, did not satisfy enough of its “purposes”.
