Family and friends of Marcus Meade stage police protest

A NEW protest was being staged today to demand the suspension of an armed police officer involved in the fatal shooting of a Midland dad.

Father-of-two Marcus Meade was shot in the chest by a West Mercia Police marksman following a five-hour stand-off with police and a negotiator at his home in Redditch on Christmas Eve last year.

The 39-year-old, who was previously recognised for his bravery when he apprehended a teenage girl's killer in Birmingham, died at the scene.

The protest, taking place outside Redditch police station was calling for the immediate suspension of the officer involved and demand greater accountability from the force.

The Justice4Marcus Meade Campaign calls upon West Mercia chief constable Richard Cooper “to do the right thing - either suspend the officer who fired the fatal shot or resign”.
