Deceptive duckweed sees people fall into town's canal

SEVERAL people have fallen into a Midland canal after its surface turned green with duckweed - giving it an 'astro-turf' appearance.

Five people are said to have plunged into the water at Walsall Town Wharf since its surface turned green in the hot weather.
It's not clear whether anyone was injured as West Midlands Fire Service said it had not been called to rescue anyone.
