COUNCIL FORCED TO TAKE AWAY MATERIAL THAT CONTAINS CLOTHES, GLASS AND RUBBLE

- RACHEL ALEXANDER

Beauty spot flood work soil is 'full of rubbish'

One of the piles of soil that contained household waste and was dumped at Walsall Arboretum, left

THE Environment Agency has ordered Walsall Council to remove piles of waste that it dumped at a Walsall beauty spot.

The council spread the material, which included clothes, polypipes, glass and building rubble, across a huge area at Walsall Arboretum.

The authority said the “works” formed part of the council's efforts to “re-profile” the site, to mitigate flooding and prepare for tree planting.

But the council said it will now remove the material after being notified by the Environment Agency that “it does not meet the required standard”.
