Anger over cemetery child memorials 'mess'
Birmingham Mail
|June 16, 2025
A GRIEVING dad has expressed his fury and upset after cherished 'memories' were left strewn at dedicated children's area at a Sutton Coldfield cemetery.
The damage was caused at the baby section at New Hall Cemetery in Lindridge Road on Wednesday (June 11).
Grass was being cut by workers using a strimmer, but when it is usually done care is taken to look after the many mini memorials with teddies, flowers, toys and pots that are on the grass.
The strimmer cutting is not an issue at the main graves section were sturdy stone headstones can withstand the use of a strimmer.
But in the baby section, flowers were left all over place, with some fresh ones brought recently sliced by what appears to be the strimmers.
There were also toys, plaques, ornaments, mirrors, notes, baskets and more overturned.
The dad, who is in his 50s, but asked not to be named, was visiting his daughter's grave and said he was lucky as her plaque was OK.
But he was 'fuming' that other parents may come to tend their child's grave and be upset by the carnage.
