Cup success labelled 'high point' for Abreu

Matt Abreu has labelled Bath City Women's Somerset Junior Cup triumph as his 'highest point so far in football'.

Appointed in July 2022 following the club's formation, Abreu oversaw promotion in his first season with this cup success their first silverware after beating Pen Mill, Stockwood Wanderers and Nailsea United in previous rounds following a bye against Crewkerne.

While Gloucester City ran away with the league title, dropping just four points all season to date, Abreu admitted Bath City's attention switched to a more realistic target.

"Our focus has fully been on the cup," said Abreu.

"Once you don't win the league you know you're not going to get promoted. You're only playing for pride.

"The players were up for it tonight and really put a shift in.

"I thought we were fully in control in the first half. We should have taken away some of our chances.

"Fair play to Weston, they came out second half and probably could have nicked it at the end.

"But we held strong and did what we had to do.

"I think it's a good solid base for us to head into next season with.
