TouristDigiPay digital asset scheme kicks off

TouristDigiPay, a regulatory sandbox programme that allows foreign tourists to convert digital assets into baht to spend in Thailand, launched on Thursday with registration opening for digital asset and e-money operators, says the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
The initiative aims to facilitate cross-border payments, strengthen the country’s digital economy and support the tourism sector as a key growth engine.
Digital asset business operators and e-money providers are invited to apply for participation from Sept 25 until Dec 26. The service is expected to start in the fourth quarter this year.
The SEC already issued supporting regulations, which came into effect on Sept 24 following their publication in the Royal Gazette.
