Thaksin gives input on tariffs

Finance Minister Pichai Chunhavajira confirmed that former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra was invited to attend a high level meeting about US tariffs because of his extensive experience and expertise in economic matters.

The meeting yesterday was convened to discuss Thailand's potential response to US President Donald Trump's proposal of a 36% tariff on imported Thai goods.

When questioned about Thaksin's involvement in the matter, Mr Pichai, who also serves as a deputy prime minister, said: "I extended the invitation myself. The meeting included the advisory team based at Ban Phitsanulok.

"I believe Mr Thaksin possesses valuable insights into these issues and could provide constructive input and share his perspectives effectively. That is why he was invited," Mr Pichai said.

The meeting included a number of senior figures, notably the prime minister's advisory team, as well as Capt Thamanat Prompow, the chief adviser of the Klatham Party.
