Shock exit for former champ Ratchanok

Ratchanok Intanon made a shock first round exit at the BWF World Championships 2025 in Paris, France, on Monday.

The former world champion bowed out to the 23rd-ranked Nguyen Thuy Linh of Vietnam, losing 17-21, 18-21 in the opening match of the women’s singles event.

However, fellow Thai Busanan Ongbamrungphan made it to the second round after beating Tereza Svabikova of the Czech Republic 21-12, 21-8. She will next face 13th seed Yeo Jia Min of Singapore.

Men’s singles player Kantaphon Wangcharoen bowed out after losing to home player, the world No.7 Alex Lanier of France, 13-21, 20-22.
