Saen Saep walkway hits the sweet spot

Bangkok is getting a 47.5 kilometre long walkway and bicycle path along the Saen Saep Canal to connect commuters not only to public transport, but to one another.

With a move towards a more walkable and bike-friendly city, Bangkok has launched a walkway that stretches from Phra Nakhon to Nong Chok to promote sustainable transport and reconnect communities with the canal that has long served as both a waterway and drainage system at the heart of the capital city.

Deputy governor Wisanu Subsompon said the project showcases the city’s commitment to safer, greener and more connected urban living. The project is Bangkok’s vision of a liveable, connected city. By 2027, the city aims to integrate the canal path with major transport systems like the MRT, BTS and ferry piers.

The walkway, which will be developed on both sides of the canal, is in total 95km long. To date, 60km of the walkway has been finished, with the rest to be finished by 2026, he said.
