PTTGC targets higher biochemical production

PTT Global Chemical Plc (PTTGC), a petrochemical arm of PTT Plc, is focusing on producing more biochemical products to endure a sluggish global petrochemical sector.

Accelerating investment in biorefinery to produce high value-added products will be a key part of the company’s business direction, said Toasaporn Boonyapipat, president of PTTGC.

Biorefinery involves a process to transform biomass, instead of crude oil, into a variety of products, such as biofuels and biochemicals.

The company is producing sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), a biofuel for aircraft, from used cooking oil to support the global campaign to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from fossil fuels.

PTTGC's SAF production is estimated at 6 million litres a year.
