PMS AGREE TO CEASEFIRE

Thailand and Cambodia agreed to an unconditional ceasefire, effective from midnight yesterday, following high-level negotiations held in Malaysia under the auspices of the Asean chair.

The agreement was the result of a special meeting between acting Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet. Both sides committed to halting all military hostilities without preconditions.

A bilateral military meeting is scheduled today, while a full meeting of the General Border Committee (GBC) will take place in Cambodia on Aug 4.

In a joint press conference, Hun Manet expressed his gratitude to China, US President Donald Trump, and Mr Phumtham for their constructive roles in the negotiations. In response, Mr Phumtham said that the outcome aligned with Thailand's longstanding desire for peace.
