Debate fastens on her dad’s hospital stay

The People's Party (PP) made a point of highlighting during yesterday's censure debate how Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra told reporters her father Thaksin was healthy just two days before he returned to Thailand from exile.

According to the PP, this has cast into doubt how Thaksin could have been deemed "seriously ill" upon his arrival, which resulted in him spending his ensuing prison term in the relative comfort and luxury of the Police General Hospital (PGH).

Rangsiman Rome, a list-MP of the main opposition party, was speaking during the second day of the debate, targeting the prime minister.

He said two days before Thaksin's return, Ms Paetongtarn informed reporters her father was healthy and had a medical checkup twice a year.
