Pheu Thai names 500 candidates for election

Pheu Thai has unveiled its full slate of 500 election candidates, using the launch to sharpen its policy message and counter claims that its platform is rooted in populism.

Yodchanan Wongsawat, the first prime ministerial candidate of the party, said its policy prioritises long-term debt reduction, sustainable income growth and expanded economic opportunity, particularly for low-income families.

Assoc Prof Yodchanan, a nephew of Thaksin Shinawatra, said the party’s economic vision had been consistently misunderstood. Pheu Thai’s approach was not about handing out short-term cash but fixing structural problems from the ground up, he said.

“The focus must be on reducing household debt while raising income and widening opportunities, ensuring that those lifted out of debt do not fall back into financial distress,” he said.
