Oil drilling set to increase
Bangkok Post
|February 07, 2026
The Department of Mineral Fuels (DMEF) is preparing to restart oil and gas exploration and production projects once a new government takes office following the Feb 8 general election, in a bid to attract multi-billion-baht investments and strengthen Thailand’s long-term energy security.
Warakorn Brahmopala, director-general of the DME, said the department mapped out a series of projects for 2026 to address delays in upstream petroleum management while adapting to volatile global market conditions.
The priorities include seeking cabinet approval for investors selected in the 25th exploration and production round of auctions to sign agreements for nine onshore blocks, representing an estimated investment of 2.5 billion baht, he said.
