NHRC seeks stricter rules on vaping

The National Human Rights Commission of Thailand (NHRC) has called for urgent action to tighten regulations on e-cigarettes following a sharp rise in usage among children and adolescents.
NHRC commissioner Wasan PaileeKlee said yesterday that the commission had submitted an urgent letter to the prime minister on Wednesday, outlining key facts, concerns, and policy recommendations regarding e-cigarette control.
Citing National Statistical Office data, the letter highlighted a staggering increase in e-cigarette users aged 15 and above, from 78,752 in 2021 to more than 900,000 in 2024.
Notably, around 25% of these users exclusively smoked e-cigarettes.
