Meta shuts over 150k scam profiles

A joint operation between the Royal Thai Police (RTP), the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Meta resulted in the arrest of 21 people and the shutdown of over 150,000 accounts linked to scam operations.

According to a statement released by the Anti-Cyber Scam Centre (ACSC), the second Joint Disruption Week officially concluded in Bangkok yesterday. The operation builds on the success of an earlier operation in December, which resulted in the removal of 59,000 accounts, pages and groups from Meta platforms and led to the issuance of six arrest warrants.

The operation, held in partnership with the FBI, the US Department of Justice's Scam Center Strike Force, and law enforcement agencies from 10 countries, focused on expanding intelligence-sharing to dismantle online scam operations at their roots.
