Maris seeks defence contracts in Sweden
Thailand's procurement of Swedish-made Gripen fighter jets will not only strengthen the country's defence capabilities but also serve as a catalyst for the development of its own defence industry, Foreign Affairs Minister Maris Sangiampongsa said.
Speaking in Stockholm after witnessing the signing of contracts on Monday, Mr Maris said the agreements provide a framework for advancing Thailand's defence sector under the Pheu Thai-led government's policy.
The Gripen acquisition includes an offset package under which Sweden is required to provide Thailand with benefits and assistance to support domestic defence industry development.
