Govt widens VGH drug scam probe

Phumtham rules out external influence
Authorities are expanding their investigation into the embezzlement allegations at the Veterans General Hospital (VGH), where over-prescribed medication worth approximately 60 million baht was reportedly resold.
Defence Minister Phumtham Wechayachai said yesterday that he has ordered a deeper probe into the case, emphasising that no external influence will interfere with the investigation.
Mr Phumtham also thanked the opposition for its concern about the probe process, saying the government has been working discreetly with the Office of Public Sector AntiCorruption Commission and the AntiMoney Laundering Office regarding the investigation.
