Gold traders must report daily trades

The Bank of Thailand is requiring gold traders to report daily transactions across both physical and digital channels.

According to Chayawadee Chaianant, the central bank's assistant governor for corporate relations, the bank is in discussions with gold traders and other relevant parties on the reporting requirements.

The regulator plans to hold a public hearing with the relevant parties and finalise the new approach later, said Ms Chayawadee.

"Initially, the central bank wants gold traders to report daily transactions so it can monitor activities that may pressure baht movement," she said.

"There will be an income-based threshold to determine which gold shops are required to report their transactions, meaning the rule will not apply to all operators."
