Games not a total triumph

The final curtain will fall on the 33rd Southeast Asia Games tomorrow evening.

Despite the highly impressive performances of our national athletes, this year’s SEA Games will leave the public asking questions.First off, this year’s SEA Games will be remembered as a triumph for our national athletes for securing 196 gold medals, placing the kingdom at the top of the medals table.

There is, however, little reason for Thais to smile, as we have been weighed down by a sluggish economy, chronic political instabilities, natural disasters and the recent border clashes.

Indeed, the overall high performance of our national athletes during the games has made us proud. The presence of young sprinters, golfers and skateboarders imbues excitement and hope for our future.
