Dad faces losing daughter to foster care after domestic abuse hell

A single dad has told how he fears one of his daughters will be taken into foster care - due to a 'sexist' social work policy at South Ayrshire Council.

- EXCLUSIVE PAUL BEHAN

The Ayr dad claims his youngster daughter, aged 10, is facing the 'terrifying' prospect of being taken away from him.

In an emotional and frank interview, the dad, aged 53, revealed how he lived with a violent and abusive partner for 15 years.

However, since the toxic relationship ended, the father and his two daughters, 10 and 16, have lived happily and securely for the last 23 months.

But according to the dad, who we are not identifying, social workers claim the best course of action is for his youngest to be taken into a foster care setting.

He admits his youngest 'hasn't engaged' with her primary school education and lives with some emotional 'difficulties.' But he's convinced that the family home remains the best environment for her.

He said: "There's a meeting on the 25th of this month that will determine if my girl is to go into foster care.

"I have worked tirelessly with the social work panel and even my daughter has told them how happy she is with being at home. But then they turn round and say 'No, you're not happy.' But she is.

"Then their stance is 'You're trying too hard to convince us' We're in a ridiculous situation.

"In terms of her education she's not liked school since day one - even before her mum left. Admittedly, it was a struggle to get her to school. Before her mum left her attendance was down to 60 per cent. Since then I've managed to get that up to 90 per cent.
