Divorce papers pinned to wall with knife

A woman who wanted to end her marriage found an obscene message on divorce papers that her husband had pinned to a bedroom wall with a knife.

John Reid narrowly avoided jail last week for "appalling" behaviour towards the woman over six-months.

Airdrie Sheriff Court heard that he had a drink problem and on one occasion was so intoxicated that he fell over, "flattening" the family Christmas tree.

Reid, 49, admitted a course of abusive behaviour towards his wife at their home in Dalbeattie Braes, Chapelhall, between December 2024 and June this year.

He also admitted carrying a bladed item during a meeting he'd arranged with police officers at a hotel on June 19.
