Middle-class Snap Up RTE Seats as Income Limit Rises

In the first year after Gujarat's education department raised the eligible parent income to Rs 6 lakh per annum for RTE quota admissions, 4,200 parents from higher income brackets have enrolled their children in self-finance schools.

Previously, eligible income limits for RTE admissions stood at Rs 1.2 lakh per annum for rural areas and Rs 1.5 lakh for urban areas. The education department announced this upward revision starting from academic year 2025. Gujarat has allocated 95,494 RTE seats this year. Parents earning up to Rs 6 lakh annually now readily seek admissions in reputed private schools.
