'Journalism used to be a calling, now it's a business'

In an eye-opening lecture, and straight-talk sans the covering and coating that media is getting to unfortunately be known for, development journalist P Sainath spoke about the implications of everything that media used to be and now is. In Ahmedabad at AMA for Dr Hirway Memorial Lecture organised by Centre for Development Alternatives on Role of Media in Democracy: Prospects and Retrospect, Sainath said: "The fundamental feature of the media of our times is a fundamental disconnect between mass media and mass reality. That's the most fundamental feature you immediately connect," he shared, moving to how rural media is covered.
